My 500 word response!

I have gotten a lot of people asking me about where my essay is. So I have decided to post it on here to make things easier. Enjoy:

Wherever you hail from, when you come to Northeastern you become part of a community. A highly diverse community full of athletes, academic geniuses, performers, leaders of all sorts, and career enthusiasts. And yet, as Huskies, we still all seem interconnected. What does it mean to be a Husky? Is it that we are highly versatile, able to adapt to different situations? Is it our affinity for competition in each activity that we partake in? Or, are we simply Huskies because we go to Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts?

No, we aren’t just run-of-the-mill university students. We carry the name Huskies not only because it is our beloved school’s mascot, but because we possess a strong sense of ambition. Sounds a little corny, but in simple terms: We are go-getters. We have a unique passion for excelling in what we believe in and what we love to do. A lot of us came to Northeastern to be the best in our intended career fields by challenging ourselves with some of the best academia in the country and by gaining experience from the established Northeastern co-op program. We are involved in so many different activities, continually striving to make an impact and leaving a paw print on whatever we do. Whether we are abroad helping to pave the way for the future or are simply helping to make a difference in our own backyard of Boston, Huskies share a common sense of ambition no matter how diverse we are.

As a Management and Marketing dual concentration in the College of Business Administration class of 2014, I am proud to call myself a Husky. Aside from academia and co-op, I am highly involved in various opportunities that Northeastern has to offer, especially student organizations on campus. I love to dance (you can probably catch me dancing my away around campus) and thus fell in love with No Limits Dance Crew during my freshman year, so much that I currently fulfill the role of Treasurer and jump at any opportunity I can to choreograph. As a native born Puerto Rican, I also wanted to get connected to Latin culture. Through the Latin American Student Organization, I found a “Familia” I can be a part of and am presently Vice President. Additionally, ever since high school, I have always hoped for a future that has a cure for cancer. I have striven to support the fight against cancer as a member of Colleges Against Cancer and the Sponsorship Chair for the Relay for life Committee. No matter what, my personal philosophy is to simply be happy in life. Hopefully I can make others around me happy as well in whatever I do.

In short, I strive to make a lasting positive impact on the Northeastern community in all that I do. Whether I’m dancing or bringing events to campus, I possess that common aspect of ambition that all Huskies possess. I hope to represent my fellow Huskies as Homecoming King for Homecoming 2011.
